Welcome!
Who Am I, and What's My Story?
My name is Travis and welcome to Our Journey To Zero! As my wife and I began our married life together in 1996, we thought it would be fun to rack up as much credit card debt as we could. Laughing in the face of anyone that would even dare mention the words budget or savings, we went on a rampage of overspending with blatant disregard for any kind of fiscal responsibility for a full 13 years. When I do something, I go balls out, so it's not surprising that we succeeded in our quest to accumulate debt - to the tune of six figures large.
That's not quite the way it happened, but regardless, by June of 2009 my family's finances had spiraled out of control and my wife and I were forced to deal with our debt and irresponsibility head on. We cut up our credit cards and enrolled in a Debt Management Program. With no lines of credit to fall back on, we are committed to paying off our credit card debt and finally living within our means.
Join this happily married father of two, and his family, share our struggles, successes and failures on our journey to zero credit card debt!
Give Me an Earful, But Don't be a Hater!
Here's how this thing works: I post selected experiences from my life, and you get to read them! Comments rock my brain, so I encourage you to post comments ranging from pats on the back to constructive criticism to outright ridicule. I'm a big boy, I can take it. I only ask that you keep your commentary north of abusive, and that you refrain from calling me an idiot for getting myself so far into debt.
I already know that.
This blog is the story of how I'm trying to FIX that situation. I'm moving forward, so should you.
Therefore, abusive commentary aimed at myself and/or other readers will not be tolerated and will be promptly removed from the blog. Since this is my blog, I'm the boss and get to be the sole judge as to what is deemed abusive.
Confession of a Not So Secret Relationship
I am currently enrolled in a Debt Management Program with CareOne Debt Relief Services. This program is the reason I'm sitting at my dining room table writing posts for this blog instead of sitting in a bankruptcy attorney's office talking about liquidating my assets.
I am also honored and privileged to be a contributing writer to the My Journey Out of Debt blog within their user community, for which they throw green pieces of paper at me. Actually, payment usually comes in the form a check, but then I cash it and it becomes green pieces of paper. Come to think of it, I just deposit it in my checking account and it becomes a number, but I think you get the point.
I am not provided with green pieces of paper, checks, or any other kind of compensation by CareOne Credit Debt Relief Services for any content generated exclusively for this website. I only recommend brands I trust, however I am a compensated affiliate of the CareOne brand of debt relief services, thus this website may contain links to theirs. Any opinions with regard to CareOne Debt Relief Services expressed by myself within this blog are my own, honest, and genuine thoughts.

I am NOT a finance professional, nor should anything I say be interpreted as expert financial advice. I can barely handle my own finances, therefore I certainly should not be held responsible for yours. I'm just a regular guy trying to pay off my debt, raise a family, and have a little fun along the way.
